High School Hosts Annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony

Brentwood High School hosted its annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony on Sept. 11 inside DiPietro Learning Center. The ceremony---which was moved inside due to the inclement weather---commemorates the lives lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pa. which occurred on the tragic date in 2001.

The ceremony was attended by many staff and administrators within the BUFSD and was led by the NY773 AFJROTC Falcons, which are housed in the DiPietro Center. Two steel beams recovered from the 37th floor of the second tower at the World Trade Center are on display in the Ross Center Courtyard. A ceremonial bell was rung three times to pay respect to each location where lives were lost 22 years ago.

The ceremony was led by Cadet Major Alisha Arshad of the NY773 AFJROTC along with Cadet Captain Gabriellie Cabral, Cadet Captain Steven Cornejo, and Cadet Captain Janay Dunston. The color guard was also provided by members of the AFJROTC including Cadet Technical Sergeant Juliette Guzman, Cadet Staff Sergeant Gisselle Cruz, Cadet Captain Rebecca Rodriguez, and Cadet Staff Sergeant Maljorin Hernandez. Yency Morales, a trumpeter from the BHS Green Machine Marching Band, performed the national anthem during the ceremony.
